Tug boats are globally active, assisting larger ships with their manoeuvres in and out of ports and harbours around the world. KVNR member Multraship has an extensive fleet of harbour towage tugs.
On a larger scale – crossing oceans with huge offshore structures in tow – that is the very definition of ocean towage. For example, a sea-going tug can use its huge amount of power to tow a drilling platform from Asia to the North Sea with a kilometre-long cable. KVNR member ALP has a fleet of vessels capable of this type of work.
These videos show the difference types of towing vessels and their uses.
